ORIENTATION

 
What is LTC? How can I take my idea for a TV show, video, or website, turn it into a finished product, and share it with the citizens of Lowell? How can I help with LTC productions if I don't want to be a producer? This facility tour and discussion is required for all new members.

PRODUCTION SKILLS:

NEW! STUDIO A FOR PRODUCERS & CREW

Our new Studio A class will take you through the basics of set design, lighting design camera operation, audio operation, video direction, and graphics. This custom class will will focus on YOUR show concept and develop it into a full-fledged production. All you have to do is come up with an idea, get a crew together and schedule times with the instructor.
Date & Time: Studio A is reserved for trainings on Thursdays from 4 PM to closing. - 4 sessions-2 hrs each - Min. 4 students

STUDIO A PRODUCTION

Just interested in helping out on studio productions or don't have a crew assembled for your show yet. You can still learn basic camera, audio, and lighting techniques, using the new equipment in Studio A. Three sessions will give you plenty of hands-on time to test your newly-acquired skills and gain the confidence to produce or crew in Studio A.

NEW! FILE-BASED WORKFLOW

This class will show you the basics of moving things around our high-speed network, using EditShare to get content to and from the Studio A production server. At the end of the class all participants will receive an EditShare account and know how to use it. This 1-session 90-minute class is highly recommended for new and experienced producers.

STUDIO B PRODUCTION - CANCELLED - (See below)

Studio B will be renovated in December. As soon as staff is trained on new equipment, we will begin scheduling Studio B classes. Check back here in January.
Learn to use our very popular & small host-operated studio. This studio can do everything studio A can, but it only takes 1 person to operate everything. Because the studio is now used every evening and on Saturday, we can only offer the class during daytime hours.

FIELD CAMERA (NX5U)

This 2-session class will introduce you to LTC's new Sony NX5U cameras and teach you everything you need to know to begin recording your program in the field. Students will shoot a 2-5 minute short video which can then be edited at the end of the Final Cut Basics class.

NX5U DIGITAL FIELD CAMERA FOR CERTIFIED PRODUCERS

This 1-session class is for current certified producers who want to switch to our new Sony NX5U camera. You'll learn the differences between the old and new cameras and how to use and care for the NX5U. You'll also learn how to move from a tape-based to a tapeless file-based workflow.

EDITING/POST-PRODUCTION:

BASICS OF VIDEO EDITING

In this course, students will gain a basic knowledge of how and why to edit video and the tools used at LTC to do it. Upon completion students will be able to navigate LTC's EditShare network, understand the general process of editing, and master the basics of Final Cut 7 Pro.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

Learning to create, manipulate, and adjust digital images is lots of fun and lets you be more creative in editing and desktop publishing. This 3-session class will cover the basics of Photoshop.

PHOTOSHOP FOR TV GRAPHICS**

Scala is no longer available in Studio A to create your program graphics. This 1-session workshop will show you how to create them in Adobe Photoshop.

GARAGEBAND LOOPS FOR NON-MUSICIANS**

This 1-session workshop will introduce you to the MAC's easy-to-use music software. Even if you have no music training, you can create theme or background music for your show in no time. It's easy and lots of fun!

COMPUTER SKILLS:

INTENSIVE WEB DESIGN 1 - CLASS SCHEDULED IN OCTOBER

This 3-session class is an intense, comprehensive HTML/CSS class for those who are really serious about web design. It is taught using DreamWeaver, but you will be able to create your website in other programs. (4 student minimum)

INTRO TO MAC

This 1-session class is for those with little or no computer experience, starting from the basics– “Where do I turn this thing on?”--to a level where you'll be comfortable in a class that uses the MAC.

This 1-session class introduces PC users to the MAC and its operating system. It builds on your existing computer knowledge and examines the similarities and differences between how Macs and PCs work.

BEGINNER BLOGGING WITH WORDPRESS

Setting up a blogging website is easier than ever, but confusing if you've never done it. If you've really wanted to blog on a topic, or even use WordPress for a website for a small business or organization, this course will give you a foundation in the terminology of WordPress, how to set up a free blog or host your own, how to find, choose, and install a template, and also tips and tricks on getting started, how to gather an audience, and how to approach blog writing. You will also be given a temporary domain name to experiment with during class.
