Streaming video service temporarily unavailable

Due to circumstances beyond our control (our web streaming host is experiencing technical difficulties) the live web stream is temporarily unavailable.

We are planning to roll out a new streaming system in the next week, that should provide higher quality video, with fewer interruptions and "technical hiccups".

For the time being, you can access the audio stream from stations WCAP and WXZO through MinorLeagueBaseball.com. Thanks for your patience, we expect to be able to provide a more robust live video strea

LTC in the News!

LTC is making headlines!

The month of May seems to have been a happening place here at LTC! Not only has LTC launched a new channel dedicated to public affairs and community programming, but it has also played a role in the local political community by providing a space for the first Democratic Lieutenant Governor's (http://lowelldems.org/2006/05/17/lt-gov-forum-location-change/) candidate debates for this political season.

Acting as a host for this event was as simple as having a member fill out a request form for use of space. With the local Senior Center disqualified as the original planned location for this debate, LTC made itself available at member request to help this political forum with a live studio audience that aired on Channel 10, a live streaming video feed via the internet, and a public space with wireless internet where political "bloggers" were able to use cutting-edge technology to reach a wide range of audiences.

Hello!!!

Hello everyone!

I'm thrilled to have joined the team at LTC and I'm looking forward to working with the wide range of individuals and organizations that make up our membership. The new projects and programs (and new channels, it appears!) that this station has been working on are truly inspiring and represent some of the best efforts of local access televsion in the state.

Make sure to tune your television to channel 95 on Monday, May 22 to watch LTC's launch party! And stay tuned to hear more about our Digital Bicycle project too! For that matter, come on down to the station and introduce yourself to the staff and get involved!

Beginner's Guide to Podcasting

As I know some folks around LTC have been bitten by the podcasting bug, I wanted to post this great resource that I found tonight: Beginner's guide to podcasts and podcasting (plus: how to create a basic podcast of your own)

In a related vein, Charlotte and I spent some time playing with Audacity - an open source sound editing software - and found it to be a pretty great application.

Community Mapping Class--Overview

Community Mapping Class
Simple tools & techniques for exploring your community
March 2, 9, 16, 17

Teacher: Ben Sheldon

Summary: Ask anyone what maps they use, and they will most likely mention road maps. Maps help us understand the world around us but creating them usually requires complicated tools and information that could only be acquired at great cost--meaning that most maps could only serve broad or profitable purposes.

Recently tools and information have become available that allows individuals or organizations to easily and inexpensively explore and map their surroundings. This allows maps to be created by everyday people and because of that, reflect their own needs or expression.

Gimme a break...

This is an excellent video covering the "Amen Break", a drum break sample from a 1969 song by funk/soul band "The Winstons". This six second breakbeat is credited by many as the "original sample" and is rooted in the history of hip-hop and electronic music. It has been used in hundreds of popular songs, even thousands if you count the underground electronic music scene.

The video itself is rather sparse, fading between scenes of a turntable and the uncluttered room that contains it, but the audio commentary is a fascinating and well-researched history of the Amen Break.

Welcome to the new face of community media

This little space I am writing in is like a personal locker like the ones in high school. The locker is part of a larger school and so this blog page is part of a larger community website.

I believe that the future of community communication lies not in the technology itself but in how places like LTC maximize this technology in order to preserve and strengthen the local community.
